Des Moines associates spell for charity

The Orchard Place Spelling Bee took place on March 8 at People's Court in downtown Des Moines. The 9th annual fundraiser, of which Merchants was a sponsor, raised almost $50,000 for Orchard Place. Orchard Place's mission is to support and develop strong futures for central Iowa youth. Spelling teams battled head-to-head for the Best Spellers title, and also competed for Most Money Raised, best Cheering Section, Best Costumes, and Most Creative Team Name. Marketing Assistant Kaitlyn May, Contract Underwriter James Tortelli, and Commercial Underwriter Matt Meyer competed for Merchants as the "Bay-bees." The team made it to Round 7 before being knocked out of the competition. While the competition was tough and the words were difficult, a good time was had by all!
