E.H. Warner formed the first mutual surety company in the U.S. in 1933. Today, the board continues to consist of all family members. His son joined the business in the 1940's and currently serves as Chairman Emeritus. His great-grandson became Merchants' President in 1996.
The legacy continues to grow. After 77 years, Merchants now does business in all 50 states, has its headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, an Austin, Texas branch, a contract surety office in Dallas-Fort Worth, and more than 100 employees working to provide excellent underwriting and underwriting services to 2,500 agents.
