Intern Spotlight: Daniel Suhr

July 9, 2019

Merchants has two interns working in our Information Technology department this summer. Daniel Suhr joined our web development team. He is currently studying computer science at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and plans to graduate in May 2020. We asked Daniel a few questions to get to know him better.

Q: What has your experience at Merchants been like?

A: My time at Merchants has been a positive and encouraging growth experience. The team I work with has been extremely helpful in getting me familiar with the business, and the process of building and maintaining web applications. Within the first two weeks, I had some of my own code already in production for the web, which would not have been possible without the incredibly supportive environment I have encountered here.

Q: What are you hoping to get out of your internship?

A: I hope to gain one simple thing out of this internship: a better understanding of myself and of the business world. This internship is a way for me to get experience in web development while gaining the bigger picture of what business looks like. This will hopefully help me decide which path I want to pursue as a career as I finish my undergraduate studies.

Q: What has been your favorite part of your internship?

A: My favorite part of my internship has been the sense of utility that I have. I am immediately able to the see the work I am doing and see the utility it has for individuals and the business as a whole.

Q: What do you like most about Merchants Bonding Company?

A: I like the atmosphere. Every person has a genuinely cares for each other. Within the Information Technology department, many people spend time together outside of work biking, fishing, etc. The teamwork and camaraderie within the web development team specifically is so beneficial to the productivity and well-being of each team member.
