The second Merchants University hosted 19 surety agents from across the country and is receiving high marks from attendees for quality content and value. The two-day event provided agents with information to help them offer additional value to their contractor clients, as well as provided continuing education hours for licensed producers. One agent said, “Honestly, I would not have minded another day of class and/or roundtables. It was very informative and it was well translated from underwriter to agent. Unlike some other surety schools, this was geared directly to the agent and was very well covered and explained.” On a scale of 1 to 5 where 5 is best, post event survey participants rated Merchants University a 4.53 or better in every area including subject content, knowledgeable instructors, networking and hospitality.
Merchants’ team of surety experts led a session on Managing Subcontractor Risk, stressing the importance of the surety agent’s role in helping guide contractor clients in managing risk and navigating the complexities of contracts and bond forms. Interactive, small-group roundtable discussions focused on claims and various underwriting topics. An Iowa Cubs baseball game and golf also provided valuable networking opportunities for attendees.
