With the help of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) the Community
Outreach Council (COC) selected a family to help this holiday season.
The COC held two Walking Taco fundraisers to benefit their Adopt a
Family, the Horrigans.
Brandon Horrigan is a 17-year-old junior
at Saydel high school who was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma in August
and has been receiving chemo at Blank Children’s hospital. Due to the
chemo, Brandon is partially paralyzed on his left side and has had
numerous hospital stays. The family also includes parents Mike and Gina,
older sister Destiny, and teenage nephew Roy who has Asperger’s
Syndrome. Gina quit her job working with the school district to take
care of Brandon full time.
The COC’s goal was to raise $450
with hopes of raising more so they could buy an iPod for Brandon. They
met their goal and purchased a new bed set for each child, a Play
Station 3 bundle for the family, a $350 Hy-Vee gift card and much more.
Brandon also got an iPod Touch and was able to return home for the
holidays! Thank you to everyone who participated and donated!
