Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic

September 28, 2012

Merchants Bonding Company Foundation’s, Charity Golf Classic, held Monday September 24, 2012, raised over $105,000 dollars for Youth Homes of Mid-America (YHMA); and the Foundation announced the establishment of an endowment fund.  The Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic brought 180 golfers from all over the country to the Wakonda Country Club in Des Moines. “The endowment fund will be named for Bill Warner Sr. and the money will directly benefit the children who live at Youth Homes," said Larry Taylor, President of Merchants Bonding Company, “we are proud and humbled once again at the outpouring of support for our charity and for our foundation!"

The bi-annual event began in 2010 and raised $70,000 dollars for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “We did our best to put on a first-class event to attract even more donors this year, and the response was overwhelming!” said Vice President of Marketing Therese Wielage. Top agents, reinsurers, vendors, and old personal friends traveled from across the country to participate; and YHMA board members and staff pitched in with their support.  "We had to add a morning golf round to accommodate all 45 of the teams," said Wielage

YHMA is a private, non-profit children's and family social service agency that provides aid to troubled youth and their families by offering housing, classes and support through many programs.  "We are so grateful for the generosity of the participants," said Mike Arndt, Executive Director of YHMA, "it costs thousands of dollars each month to house and care for children who have nowhere else to live, no one to turn to, and this money will go a long way in helping us provide for them."

Golfers could not have asked for more beautiful weather on this fall day in Iowa, as they set out to earn the tournament trophy. “The entire day was outstanding,” said Bill Warner Jr., Merchants Secretary. “We could not have asked for a better way to honor my father’s legacy.”
