Morning & Afternoon Shotgun Start Times
Evening Reception Following Golf at Glen Oaks Country Club

Becoming a parent should be one of the most wonderful experiences in life. But for families facing extreme economic pressures it can be a time of struggle and uncertainty. Infants and children living in poverty face many risks; they often go without a safe place to sleep, life-saving car restraints, or even basic supplies to support their health and well-being.

EveryStep aims to support these at-risk families through their Nest Program. Participants earn incentive points for completing healthy behaviors, and those points can then be redeemed for vital items like cribs, mattresses, car seats, diapers, and formula.

In FY22, Nest programs served more than 1,400 parents and children. Funds raised through the 2023 Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic will help stock these programs with essential items necessary to support even more at-risk families.

Remembering Bill Warner, Sr.

Bill Warner, Sr. was the grandson of E.H. Warner, Merchants Bonding Company’s founder, and father of Bill Warner, Jr., Merchants’ current Senior Vice President - Operations. Bill Warner, Sr. held many roles during his 30-year career at Merchants, becoming the President in 1985 and Chairman of the Board in 1993.

Bill loved Merchants, but his real passion was sports. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and supported Louisiana State University athletics since his enrollment in 1966. Bill was especially fond of golf. He played on his high school golf team, qualified for and played in two National Amateur tournaments, was a medalist in the Iowa State Amateur, and was a past club champion in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a member of Wakonda Club for many years.

Bill passed away of cancer in June of 2000. In 2010, the first Golf Classic was held in Bill’s honor, raising more than $70,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The impact of the biennial Golf Classic has grown immensely since then, raising more than $800,000 for local charities.

Past Beneficiaries

In 2008, Merchants established the Merchants Bonding Company Foundation. Two years later we hosted our first Golf Classic. It was, and continues to be, a wonderful way to honor Bill’s legacy and give back to our community in a significant way.
