Celebrating 50 Years in the Great state of Texas
October 23, 2019
It was one giant leap for Merchants Bonding Company in 1969 with the launch of its first-ever branch office in Austin, Texas. Merchants began writing surety business in Texas in 1964. A short five years later, President W.W. Warner recognized the enormous potential in the state and, with the transfer of C. W. Story from the Des Moines office, the Austin office was founded. Merchants’ presence in Texas marked the company’s first venture into national expansion through local offices. Warner’s strategy was highly effective, as Merchants now ranks among the top 10 national surety writers in the state of Texas. Thank you to our agent partners and principal clients in Texas for your partnership and commitment to growing with Merchants.
Apollo 11 Launches – Man Walks on Moon
Some speculate the opening of the new Merchants Bonding Company office in Texas wasn’t the “biggest” launch of 1969. On the morning of July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 made its historic launch to the moon carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. The world watched in anticipation as Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon declaring, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
