Merchants Sponsors STEM Project

May 3, 2019

Merchants Bonding Company partnered with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ STEM Advisory Council and the Iowa Department of Education to help turn six high-poverty elementary schools into models of innovative computer science instruction as part of the new “Computer Science is Elementary” project. The selected schools each receive a $50,000 award thanks to private-sector sponsors like Merchants.

On Tuesday, Gov. Reynolds announced the six schools that were selected. The six schools are: Denison Elementary, Lenihan Intermediate, Cora B. Darling Elementary, East Union Elementary, Perry Elementary and Richardson Elementary. The goal is to create opportunities for students and a statewide network of computer science expertise. The schools selected plan to implement their programs with the money received no later than the 2020-21 school year.
