Fundraising Update
July 5, 2022
55 different non-profit organizations received nearly $100,000 from the Merchants Bonding Company Foundation through June of this year. The organizations represent a wide range of causes and interests ranging from Special Olympics, to Iowans for Ukrainians, to Habitat for Humanity.
All of the Foundation’s giving falls into the following categories; Arts & Culture, Associate & Agent Partner Priorities, Children & Education, Community Betterment, Medical & Research, all of which align with our mission of providing support to non-profit organizations to improve our communities, and enrich the lives of children in the communities we serve. The Foundation is also proud to match associates’ private donations and support paid volunteer time off to benefit eligible organizations. We believe this encourages giving that’s meaningful and personal to our associates. We also provide our Surety Elite Partners with matching funds to put toward causes that are meaningful to them. So far this year our agent partners, and the Foundation, have given to HOAG Hospital Foundation, Hospice of the Chesapeake, Festival of Trees Tacoma, Agape Nashville, Angel Reach, Halo Animal Rescue, Metrocrest Food Services and more.
In addition to individual, matching, and recurring donations, the Foundation selects a focus charity each year to benefit from our fundraising efforts. This year’s charity is Hawthorn Hill, whose mission is to “establish and operate housing programs for homeless families with children that help them obtain permanent housing and to provide services to help families achieve economic self-sufficiency.”
Fundraising and volunteer opportunities for the focus charity are facilitated by Merchants’ Community Outreach Committee (COC). So far, Merchants associates have volunteered at various events at Hawthorn Hill; doing some spring cleanup, planting flowers, and serving dinner to residents. Fundraising events have included Bingo, food days, and raffles, several of which have set company records for dollars raised. The year’s fundraising will be capped off with Merchants’ Party with a Purpose, which alternates yearly with the Foundation’s other premiere event, the Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic. The Classic's beneficiaries have included a wide variety of charities ranging from Blank Children’s Hospital NICU to Easterseals, and most recently, the 2021 focus charity, Vision to Learn, which received more than $190,000 from the Foundation.
