Merchants Bonding Company Foundation’s Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic benefiting Vision to Learn has been rescheduled to September 2021.

“Due to the high number of participants, volunteers and reception guests, and the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, we felt postponing the Golf Classic to 2021 was a responsible decision,” said Bill Warner Jr., Senior Vice President of Operations and Corporate Secretary for Merchants Bonding Company. “The health and safety of our associates and business partners continues to be our top priority.”

The sixth Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at both Wakonda Club and Des Moines Golf & Country Club to accommodate the growing number of participants. “We strive to make it a first-class event, worthy of the more than 200 golfers and the additional reception guests,” said Therese Wielage, Vice President of the Merchants Bonding Company Foundation.

The 2021 Golf Classic will raise money for the Vision to Learn program sponsored by Variety - the Children’s Charity of Iowa and United Way of Central Iowa. Vision to Learn seeks to give every child a chance to succeed in school and in life by bringing mobile clinics and trained eye care professionals directly to schools and community organizations. The program provides students with two free pairs of eyeglasses (one pair to take home and one to leave at school). Funds raised through the 2021 Golf Classic will go toward expanding efforts of bringing eye care services and glasses directly to students who would not otherwise receive quality vision care.

The biennial Golf Classic began in 2010 and in the five tournaments since, has raised more than $600,000 for Iowa charities. It began in memory of Bill Warner Sr. who was a leader in the surety industry. Surety professionals from across the U.S travel to Des Moines and join local golfers in supporting our community.
