Merchants' Foundation Pledges $100,000

May 26, 2022

The Merchants Bonding Company Foundation is proud to announce its support of an initiative that will change the face of our community, with a pledge of $100,000 to the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation.

The Iowa Soccer Development Foundation was created to “design and build a multi-use professional soccer stadium and plaza to energize Iowa’s economy, unite people through shared experiences and provide opportunities for underserved at-risk youth to experience the global game of soccer.”  Merchants’ President Larry Taylor believes the project serves the community on multiple levels, “Not only does it provide a healthy outlet for at-risk kids, but it creates a standout amenity here in Central Iowa that we believe will be another great way to help the business community attract and retain our workforce.”

The goals of the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation align closely with the guiding principles and mission of the Merchants Bonding Company Foundation; to provide support to non-profit organizations to improve our communities, and enrich the lives of children in the communities we serve. The Foundation donates to a wide array of organizations, including our 2022 focus charity, Hawthorn Hill.

The Merchants Community Outreach Committee (COC) selected Hawthorn Hill, with a mission of helping homeless families, as the recipient of this year’s ongoing internal fundraising efforts. The COC encourages and facilitates the company’s financial giving and volunteer efforts, and coordinates events to raise money for the focus charity.  Merchants’ focus charities are selected on the off-years of the Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic, the Foundation’s premiere fundraising event held every other year.  Since its inception, the Classic has raised more than $600,000 for local charities.
