New Office and Leadership at Merchants Bonding Company™ in Maryland

March 31, 2021

Merchants Bonding Company™ announces the addition of Ed Hubbard as the leader of its new Maryland contract underwriting office. He will join the office on April 12, 2021 as an Assistant Vice President of Contract Underwriting.

“Strategically it made sense to locate an office in the Baltimore metro area and finding the right person to lead it was key,” said Senior Vice President of Contract Underwriting Josh Penwell, “We are deeply committed to serving that area and Ed will help us advance our growth goals and deliver on our brand promise of common sense underwriting and first class experiences.”

Ed has been a leader in surety in Maryland for more than 25 years and is well-known for his underwriting excellence. He comes to Merchants from Travelers’ Hunt Valley office where he was Managing Director, responsible for a portfolio of accounts across Mid-Atlantic States. He began his surety career in Baltimore with Amwest Surety Insurance Company in 1989 after graduating from the University of Maryland College Park.

“I am excited about this opportunity to grow Merchants Bonding’s surety-focused enterprise in Maryland and Virginia, and play a leadership role in expanding their inclusive culture and common sense approach with our agent partners and contractors,” said Hubbard.

The Baltimore metro office covers Maryland and Virginia and is part of Merchants’ Southeast Region led by Regional Vice President of Contract Underwriting Aaron Raschke. Merchants’ growing team also includes Contract Underwriters Zach Schulte and Josh Linn.
