Virtual Internship Program Comes To A Close
August 12, 2020
Over the last five weeks, Merchants Bonding Company hosted four summer interns in claims & compliance, information technology and commercial surety. With all associates working from home due to the pandemic, Merchants adapted to a virtual internship program.
“As many companies suspended or cancelled their internship programs this summer, Merchants wanted to continue with our program to provide these opportunities for students despite the challenges of the pandemic,” says Vice President of Human Resources Stacey Cale. “Merchants is committed to growing talent for the future and feels our internship program is a valuable part of that.”
Interns had a variety of opportunities within their field of study and gained valuable insights on the transition to life after college with Merchants’ “real world” series of virtual events. The series engaged interns in various topics including time management, influencing, understanding benefits packages and more.
“Merchants did a great job of keeping us connected,” says Claims and Compliance Intern Nicole Votroubek. “There was some sort of connection with someone every day and everyone was great and welcomed questions no matter what the subject.”
Panel discussions, department meetings, project updates and happy hours were just a few ways interns stayed involved while learning about the company and its commitment to our purpose, vision, mission and values.
“The program made a point to get me involved in a variety of different things, making it easy to stay engaged,” says Web App Developer Intern Aubrey Uriel Sijo-Gonzales.
