Merchants Bonding Company Foundation
The Merchants Bonding Company Foundation was formed in 2008 in celebration of the company's 75th anniversary in business. The Foundation is a charitable organization that focuses on giving back to the community. In 2016, it reached a new milestone exceeding over $1 million in donations. The Foundation holds the Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic every two years, but selects a beneficiary each year.
In 2010, the Foundation sponsored the first Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic, which raised more than $70,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The second Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic was held on September 24, 2012 and benefited Youth Homes of Mid-America with a gift of $105,000. The 2014 Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic raised $130,000 for Blank Children's Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
2016 Bill Warner Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Classic
A record number of golfers turned out for the 2016 Bill Warner Senior Memorial Charity Golf Classic, which supported the Puppy Jake Foundation. With 208 golfers and 76 corporate sponsors from across the country, the group raised $160,000 to buy and train at least 8 service dogs for veterans suffering from physical disabilities and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
"This is a record amount for us," said Merchants President Larry Taylor, "since we began our biennial tournament in 2010, it's grown in both participation and dollars. We feel very humbled and fortunate that so many supported our efforts to help veterans."
"I am still speechless!" said Puppy Jake CEO Becky Beach. "We can't thank everyone enough and obviously our words don't convey the appreciation and deep gratitude from everyone associated with Puppy Jake Foundation."
Puppy Jake began in 2013 and had placed just 5 service dogs with Iowa area veterans at the beginning of 2016. The program is rapidly growing and about a dozen dogs were placed with veterans in 2016. Puppy Jake Foundation purchases high quality, pure bred puppies from reputable breeders and has begun working with rescue and shelter organization to identify potential candidates as well. Volunteers raise the puppies with expenses being paid by donations. Each veteran and trained service dog attend a 10-14 day camp to ensure the bond between the two is strong.
"Word of our fundraising got to one donor who would like to remain anonymous, and that donor alone gave $20,000, enough to sponsor one dog," said Merchants COO Bill Warner Junior. "The desire to help our veterans is strong and we are honored that we could use my dad's memorial outing to give back to the men and women who serve our country."
Matching Gift Program
In addition to other donations, the Merchants Bonding Company Foundation matched the charitable gifts of 17 associates in 2016. The Foundation is proud to give back to the community, and is looking forward to fundraising in the future. Merchants Bonding Company Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization.
